Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa. The first Test of the two-match series ended in a draw.

The two sides – Bangladesh and South Africa – came into the match at the back of a T20 International and a One-Day international (ODI) series. While South Africa won the two-match Twenty20 series 2-0, they lost to Bangladesh 1-2 in the ODIs. It was their first series defeat against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, registered their third consecutive ODI series win following the quarter-final exit in the 2015 ICC Cricket world Cup. They haven’t lost a single bilateral series this year.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first. Dale Steyn struck early and became the joint fastest bowler to reach 400 Test wickets when he dismissed opener Tamim Iqbal, who came into the match for the injured Soumya Sarkar. Imrul Kayes and Momin ul Haque too followed him back to the pavilion.
