Live Cricket Score England 124/2 & win by 8 wickets There were no hiccups in the chase here and England go 2-1 up in the series. Yet another solid knock from Ian Bell, who remained unbeaten on 65 and Joe Root again, gave good support with a sturdy 38. Australian bowlers were good, Hazlewood in particular. The two men at the crease were wise enough to leave the dangerous balls and cash in on the bad ones. Starc had a disappointing second innings outing with the ball but it is all smiles in the England camp and it took only 2 1/2 for the match to be done and dusted.
Live Cricket Score England 55/2 After the fall of Cook’s wicket, England have moved on smoothly and Bell has been taking the bowlers on, easing the pressure with some fluent strokes on the on side. England get to the fifty mark and Josh Hazlewood is back into the attack. Immediately, the bowler gets one to pitch on middle and drift onto leg and Lyth is trapped in front. Maraius Easmus has no hesitation in raising the finger. Replays show that there was no bat involved and the batsman is sent packing. Another failure for Lyth as England’s opening woes continue. Joe Root gets off the mark by hammering a Hazlewood half-tracker to the cover boundary. The medium-pacer comes back with a Mcgrath-esque delivery that narrowly misses the edge of Root’s bat. A Lyth lbw b Hazlewood 12 (28)
Live Cricket Score England 11/1 Alastair Cook’s defence is breached and as Mitchell Starc comes up with a peach of a delivery that breached his defence. The ball was very similar to the ‘Ball of the Ashes’ in the last Ashes edition by Mitchell Johnson. Australia are in with a shout. A Cook b Starc 7 (12)
Live Cricket Score England 8/0 The lunch break is up and England have made a slow start through the openers. Alastair Cook and Adam Lyth are full of caution. However attacking Michael Clarke sets his fielders, Australia need their bowlers to take quick wickets. Starc and Hazlewood get off to a tidy start and now Nathan Lyon is into the attack.
Live Cricket Score Australia 265 England have got the Aussies bowled out. It was a resolute display from the Australian lower middle order and the tail. Starc has been fantastic with the bat and now the Aussies need him to replicate that with the ball. The last wicket added 20 runs. M Starc c Sub b Moeen Ali 58 (108)
Live Cricket Score Australia 245/9 Australia lose their ninth and it is a brilliant catch by Joe Root at third slip. Earlier, Mitchell Starc was going hammer and tongs at the English bowlers, who were struggling a bit with the absence of James Anderson. Joe Root in particular, was taken to the cleaners as the left-arm pacer got to his fourth half-century. Alastair Cook turned to Ben Stokes and attacked with slips. Josh Hazlewood, who was also looking good at the crease got a big nick and went to the slip cordon. Nathan Lyon came in survived a couple of big leg before shouts from Stokes’s bowling. J Hazlewood c Root b Stokes 11 (20)
Live Cricket Score Australia 226/8 Steven Finn has taken his sixth and Australia lose the big wicket of Peter Nevill, who did a sterling job of hanging on and rallying around the tailenders. Mitchell Starc on the other end is not going down without a fight either. The Australian wicketkeeper just got to his fifty. Finn aimed one at his ribs and Nevill tries to flick the ball to fine leg but the ball takes his bat’s edge and a bit of his thigh pad but it was all Jos Buttler from there. England’s wicketkeeper dives full-length to his wrong side and takes a sharp catch. The decision is referred by the batsman but replays shows that there was a deflection on the way to the keeper. The Aussies are closing in on a lead of 100.

Australia’s middle order has been brittle and yet again, it was ruthlessly exposed with the likes of Adam Voges and Michael Clarke barely troubling the scorers. Despite lacking the flair of Brad Haddin with the bat, Peter Nevill has shown that he is a scrappy dogged batsman who puts a hefty price on his wicket. It is him and the likes of Mitchell Starc who have to take Australia to a position where the bowlers have some sort of a target to bowl at.
Australia lost the plot from day one but have their moments in this match, which was on the brink of getting done and dusted by the end of the second day. England are on top but don’t write of the Aussies just yet!
