Preview: Spanish league champions Barcelona are all set to visit English league contenders Liverpool in a much anticipated Champions League semifinals second-leg clash at the Anfield Stadium on Tuesday. In the first league of the coveted European competition, Lionel Messi-led Barca hammered Liverpool 3-0. Now, the hosts have a huge task lying ahead of them.

Messi produced a masterclass in the first leg of the competition by scoring a brace and will look to continue the momentum at Reds’ home stadium in Merseyside. Former Liverpool players Luis Suarez and Phillipe Coutinho will also return to their old hunting ground.

Ahead of the match Suarez spoke to the presser and was quoted by AFP as saying: “I am among the elite of football, I am at Barcelona, thanks to what Liverpool made me as a player.” He scored the opening goal in the first leg against Liverpool and played a key role in the match which concluded with the final score of 3-0 at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.

However, he warned Barcelona against complacency, reminding the Spanish champions of their fixture against Barcelona last season where they lost the fixture in the second leg despite a 4-1 advantage in the initial leg.

“We have come off the blow of last season when we had a good advantage (from the first leg). We have thought about that a lot and we know that they have an extra edge here in front of their fans. “To play at Anfield is like playing with an extra man for what the fans transmit to the Liverpool players.”

However, the current Liverpool side, despite their stellar season, has been marred with injuries to crucial players like Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino under the circumstances of which a comeback against the high-flying Barca seems unlikely.

“Firmino and Salah are important players for them, but that does not change our preparation for the game,” added Suarez. “They have other players, most of them internationals and we need to pay them plenty respect.”
