This fan surely got the catch of his life as he held a confused and stunned Serena Williams in his arms! When you go to watch a match, the most you can hope for is managing to catch that stray ball that lands into the stands or perhaps if you get real lucky, getting a change to shake the hands of their favourite sportsperson, rarely ever does anyone manage to catch a flying sportsperson themselves! The accident or rather, the lucky accident happened at Wimbledon in 2014 and was captured and shared by Wimbledon’s official Facebook page just recently. The video has already gone viral and been shared multiple times on social media sites.

The incident occurred during Serena Williams doubles match at All England Lawn Tennis Club where she teamed up with her sister Venus against Kalashnikova and Savhuk in their first set. Serena chased down a line drive to the other end of the court and though she managed to get the ball, what she did not realise was she ran out of space and was right at the boundary of the court. Running in full swing, there was hardly any time to stop herself and she fell over right into the spectators stand! A chivalrous spectator managed to catch hold of her and before she knew it, she was plonked right into the lap of the spectator! While those on the sides of the person who caught her realised what was happening, some swiftly moved away fearing injury from her fall while others kept her from falling headlong and hurting herself.

An embarrassed Selena did not know how to react and was completely confused for a few moments post which she blushed, laughed and got right back onto her feet (albeit with the help of the fans) and went on the win that set and 2 other sets after that, winning the match. She even gave her sister a hi-fi as she went back to the game. While talking to Tennis X about her fall, Serena said, “I was running and I couldn’t stop. Had some lovely gents that was able to break my fall, so it was really nice.” As for the spectator, we needn’t say just how pleasantly surprised he must be!
