Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba, David de Gea were among the star footballers at Manchester United, who have reportedly been hit with pay cuts of up to 25% after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season. The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-led side drew one-all against relegation-bound Huddersfield on Sunday which ensured a sixth-place finish.

Only clubs finishing in the top four are assured a Champions League place in the following season and this time the four clubs from Premier League are Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. The top two is yet to be determined in a title race which would go on till the last day.

According to a report by Football Leaks, the contracts of these players included wage reduction clauses which were triggered on failure to deliver a Champions League spot this campaign.

It is reported that the club’s top scorer, Alexis Sanchez, will take a play drop from 500,000 pounds to 375,000. While Paul Pogba will take a 125,000-pound hit.

Following the match on Sunday, critics and fans launched a scathing attack on the likes of Alexis Sachez, who has failed to deliver since his arrival from Arsenal in January 2018. The Chilean has scored just two goals this campaign and failed to break into the starting eleven of the squad.

Spanish keeper David de Gea, who was adjudged as the club’s player of the season last year, has failed to impress in the current campaign which further elevated Man United’s woes.

The club will now focus on another spending spree in the summer transfer to strengthen their squad.
