Great Britain’s Amir Khan will square off against World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. The announcement comes after Pacquiao’s fans on Twitter voted Khan as his next opponent. The fight will take place on 23 April. However, their is no official confirmation regarding the venue yet.
Khan was chosen over compatriot Kell Brook, Australia’s Jeff Horn and American Terence Crawford in a poll carried out by Pacquiao, reported BBC Sport.
Pacquiao took to twitter and posted: “Negotiations between team Pacquiao and team Khan have come to terms for the April 23 bout as this is what the fans wanted.”
Following Pacquiao, Khan tweeted: “My team an [sic] I have agreed terms with Manny Pacquiao and his team for a super fight #pacquiaokhan #April23rd.”
United Arab Emirates is likely to be the venue for this fight as Pacquiao had recently said that his next fight will in the country.
Khan’s last bout was in May last year against Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The Briton was knocked out in that bout. Pacquaio, who retired in April last year, made a return in November and defeated Jessie Vargas.
This will be Pacquaio’s 68th fight. The 38 year old boxer has lost just six and drawn two. On the other hand, it will be 35th bout for Khan.
