Indian cricketer Stuart Binny is an all-rounder in the game and known for his fast bowling. However the fans of cricket who are actually much more than just fans, they are experts of the game and still sitting in their living room watching the game on their television. They can turn highly critical of Binny, whenever he fails to deliver on the ground. So called admirers of the ‘gentleman’s game’ troll Binny for his performance on the ground by dragging his wife Mayanti Langer. Which is exactly what everyone should be ashamed of. Mayanti, found herself at the receiving end of trolls on twitter after Binny gave 32 runs in an over by Evin Lewis against the West Indies in a T20 match recently in the USA. Mayanti is a leading sports anchor in India and happened to be anchoring that game. People soon began trolling Binny for his game of that day by linking it to his wife Mayanti again and again. Mayanti is, no doubts very beautiful, but that is not her accomplishment. The lady is much more than just a pretty face and a cricketer’s wife. Mayanti has been know for her anchoring and career as a leading sports presenter. She is an independent woman with a successful career to her name. However, morons who reduce accomplishments of both Binny and Mayanti, do not seem to understand this. So, Mayanti took charge of the situation and gave everyone a piece of their mind. Mayanti replied with a letter, which should probably be a lesson for the whole troll community, who in their trolling and anonymity neglect the limits insensitively, without even putting some thought to how it might affect the one on the other end.
To every0ne who trolls other and drag their family and relatives into it, without considering the effects of it, this is high time to understand, what happens online, affects the other person offline as well. No one can log off from stress and trauma easily after receiving those pathetic message.
Mayanti came out courageously and pointed out exactly what needs to be thought about in her epic shut down to the trolls. Also it is not to be forgotten that Stuart Binny, son of former selector Roger Binny, has the best ODI figures by an Indian bowler. He took 6 wickets for 4 runs as India beat Bangladesh in 2014.
This is not for the first time when a cricketer and their dear ones have been trolled. In May 2016, actress Anushka Sharma, who was reportedly dating Indian cricketer Virat Kohli had to face trolls and criticism, when the cricketer was not able to perform in a particular game. Later, Virat send out a message shaming all those who were having a go at Anushka.
These situations make me say, cricket might be a gentleman’s game, but it is not a gentlefan’s game. Cricket is just another religion in India, followed blindly.
