The second match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season will see Melbourne Renegades face off against Brisbane Heat at the GMHBA Stadium in Geelong on Monday. After Babar Azam’s flop show in the opening match for Sydney Sixers on Sunday, his Pakistan teammate Shaheen Shah Afridi will be playing his first-ever BBL match for Brisbane Heat on Monday.
Afridi will be going up against his teammate Mohammad Rizwan, who is making his BBL debut for Melbourne Renegades. The home team have been boosted by the addition of former Perth Scorchers and Australia pacers Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye. Batter Caleb Jewell will also join the Renegades having made the move from Hobart Hurricanes.
Australian opener Nathan McSweeney is set to take over as the new captain of the Brisbane Heat team who will be boosted by the addition of Afridi to their bowling arsenal. However, the visitors will be missing the services of left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, Callum Vider, Tom Alsop and Spencer Johnson.
Heat will also miss the likes of Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser, who are away on national duty during the Ashes series. The Renegades, on their part, will be missing Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
Renegades hold the advantage over Heat in head-to-head encounters in the BBL till date with 14 wins as compared to 8 losses in 22 matches so far.
