New Delhi: The Indian hockey team will face Pakistan on September 14 in a round-robin game at the men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 to be held in China, the schedule of which came out on Monday. Hulunbuir City in China will play as hosts for the six-team event which is slated to take place from September 8-17. Besides India and Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and hosts China are the rest of the teams.
South Korea take on Japan in the tournament opener on September 8 while India play China in their opening match on the same day. Before the Pakistan clash, the Men in Blue play three matches against Japan (September 9), Malaysia (September 11) and South Korea (September 12).
The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, scheduled on September 16. The final will be played a day later. Meanwhile, India, defending champions in the tournament, will be entering the tournament as one of the favourites to win the trophy after taking bronze at the Paris Olympics 2024.
None of the other teams in the competition qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 that concluded on Sunday. India are the most successful side in the Asian Champions Trophy, having won the title four times. In the previous edition in Chennai, India came back from a 1-3 deficit to win the final 4-3.
