Both teams will eye to edge past the surprise leaders at the table Aizwal FC who have 30 points in 14 matches. If East Bengal, who have not played since March 12 due to I-League break, squeeze the gap they will be in touching distance of Aizwal.
However, their recent performance not too convincing as they failed to turn the clock in their favour.
In comparison to East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, who have won their last two games convincingly against Bengaluru FC 3-0 in rescheduled I-League tie and Abahani Limited Dhaka 3-1 in the AFC Cup group stage, are in good position and have a good chance to get better of East Bengal. A win for them would see them go level on points with Aizwal FC.
East Bengal have not played any match since March 12 due to I-league break. They also lost to Churchill Brothers and Chennai City FC away consecutively which dented their confidence before the derby and their bid to win the I-League for the first time since it was renamed from National Football League (NFL) in 2008 to I-League.
