New Delhi: Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar has suggested Sushil Kumar, who won a gold medal in men’s 74-kilogram freestyle competition of National Wrestling championship in Indore, to not accept the medal.
Sushil, who was back on the mat after the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, fought for just two minutes and 33 seconds in total on the mat as he battled only two of his initial round bouts before three of his challengers in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final handed him walkover wins.
However, Farhan feels Sushil should not accept the gold medal in such a way. “I hold @WrestlerSushil in high regard for all he has achieved through hard work, discipline, blood and sweat. Sincerely hope he does not accept the gold in this manner. It’s not sportsmanlike,” tweeted Akhtar.
While Sachin Dahiya gave him a walkover in the semifinals, enabling Sushil’s smooth passage to the gold-medal round, Praveen had given his more fancied opponent a walkover in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, Sushil overpowered Mizoram’s Lalmalsawma by technical fall in 48 seconds in the first round and then pinned down Mukul Mishra in just a minute and 45 seconds in his next bout.
