New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra could not repeat his 2022 feat in the Diamond League final held in Zurich on Thursday, 29 August. Julian Weber of Germany defeated him and won the title. Weber created a new personal best and world lead by throwing the javelin 91.51 meters. Earlier, Weber had made the longest throw of this year, 91.06 meters.
Weber secured the first position with 91.51 meters in the Zurich Diamond League. Neeraj Chopra remained in second place with a throw of 85.01 meters. Neeraj committed three consecutive throw fouls. Meanwhile, Keshorn Walcott remained in third place with a throw of 84.95 meters.
It is worth noting that this was Neeraj Chopra’s second Diamond League final. He won the title in Zurich in 2022 by throwing 88.44 meters, while in 2023 and 2024 he also reached the finals but missed out on the title. He fell short of winning the title in Diamond League 2024 by just 1 centimeter. He was defeated by Anderson Peters of Grenada, who threw 87.87 meters.
2017 Final:- Neeraj finished seventh out of eight with a throw of 83.80m.
2022 Zurich:- Neeraj Chopra created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Diamond League trophy. He produced a best throw of 88.44m to overtake Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Jakub Wadlejch.
2023 Eugene:- Wadlejch bounced back to overtake Neeraj and win the title. Neeraj threw 83.80m, while Wadlejch threw 84.24m to win the title.
2024 Brussels:- Neeraj missed the title by just 1 centimetre. Grenada’s Anderson Peters (Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist) won his first Diamond League title with a throw of 87.87m. Julian Weber finished third with a throw of 85.97m.
