Manchester United has signed Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic today afternoon at Old Trafford, according to sports broadcaster Jim White. The signing was confirmed after Matic was seen training at Old Trafford sporting Red Devils’ jersey earlier on the day.
Matic has become Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer in a deal worth around USD 47.01 million. The Chelsea midfielder was pictured in a grey Manchester United training kit on social media this afternoon.
Later in the day, Manchester Evening News claimed that Matic underwent a medical test at United’s head quarter which indicated Mourinho’s third signing of the summer. The daily also reported that Matic has joined United two months ago. Now, Matic is set to make his United debut in UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid Madrid on August 8.
However, he will have to struggle to find a place in the friendly against Sampdoria in Dublin on Wednesday. It was learned that Matic’s presence at the midfield would reunite Manchester United’s game under his former Chelsea boss Mourinho at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach has been looking for a long-term replacement of Michael Carrick.
After winning 2016-2017, EPL Chelsea left out Matic from their pre-season tour to China. When Chelsea coach Antonio Conte was asked about the midfielder after Chelsea’s 2-1 friendly win over Inter Milan yesterday but he said he doesn’t know about it.
