Unfortunately for the World Wrestling Entertainment(WWE) universe, Cena is again shooting for the big screen and brushing the finishing touche in his upcoming movie ‘Playing With Fire’. The production for the movie will go on until the 1st of April and Wrestlemania 35 goes live on the 7th that month. Because of this, there has been no matches planned or advertised for John Cena yet. But the goodnews is that, right after the shoot concludes Cena will be right back in the ring on time for Wrestlemania.

Earlier, Cena was due to take on Sullivan but now, the company has found a new opponent for him – Drew McIntyre. According to several reports, Cena will certainly take part in WWE Wrestlemania 35 and it will be against the Scottish in a one-on-one. According to Ringside News, “currently people backstage in WWE are pulling to place Drew McIntyre in a match with John Cena on April 7th.”

Cena was scheduled to take on Lars Sullivan in the upcoming Wrestlemania but according to sources, that could now be “out of the window”. Sullivan is yet to return to action since being sidelined after suffering from anxiety attacks. Expected to return early, Sullivan’s chances of making an appearance any time soon seems unlikely as he has not fully recovered from his situation.

A match against one of the all-time greatest in the WWE would have potentially been the highlight of Sullivan’s career so far. This situation has also raised questions over the certainty of Cena’s match in Wrestlemania, the 16-time champion admittedly remained out of action due to promotions and shoot of his movies. His latest movie ‘bumblebee’ kept him out of the ring for several months till he made a comeback in the first week of January this year.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio has commented on the situation: “The guy they wanted to make in the Superstar but he was not gonna win the Rumble was Lars Sullivan. They really wanted him back last Monday and obviously, he was not back so I don’t know what’s going on. Well, he’s not ready to be back, that’s all. I don’t anticipate him not being with the company but as each week goes by, the idea of him wrestling John Cena gets slimmer and slimmer. It may even be out the window right now, I don’t know,” he said.

A few days ahead of the recently concluded Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, the WWE had confirmed that John Cena was suffering from an ankle injury and will be out of the special event. Since then, Cena has not taken part in any match and as Wrestlemania 35 knocks at the door, there has been no plan formulated for him officialy but it looks like the 16-time champ will return to the grandest stage of them all.
