New Zealand Mosque Shooting: India captain Virat Kohli came out to condemn the attack on the mosque in Christchurch on Friday. Kohli also hoped that the Bangladeshi cricketers stay safe in New Zealand. Calling the incident ‘shocking and tragic’, Kohli also gave his condolences to the affected families and people. Kohli’s post on Twitter read, “Shocking and tragic. My heart goes out to the ones affected by this cowardly act at Christchurch. Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin and VVS Laxman also reacted on the incident.
The incident took place when the Bangladeshi cricketers were going to the local mosque in Christchurch to offer their Friday prayers when a lady standing at the gate of the mosque informed the cricketers about the shooting. Once the cricketers heard that, they immediately went to their team bus to take them safely to the hotel. According to news reports, 49 lives were lost and many others were injured in the incident.
“We stand here and condemn, absolutely the attack that occurred today by an extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist,” New Zealand Prime Minister Scott Morrison told in a press conference.
