Home team New Zealand will be desperate to end a four-match T20I losing streak to Australia to keep the three-match Chappell-Hadlee Series alive as the two sides face off in the second T20I match at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Friday. Skipper Mitch Marsh hammered a belligerent 85 to power Australia to an impressive six-wicket win with more than 3 and half overs to spare in the first T20I match.
Black Caps youngster Tim Robinson scored a maiden T20I century to set up his side’s impressive 181-run total after batting first. For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis picked up a couple of wickets while Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/23 in 4 overs.
In reply, Australia chased down the target in 16.3 overs led by Marsh’s 43-ball 85 with 5 sixes and 9 fours at the top of the order. Travis Head scored 31 off 18 balls while Matthew Short, batting at No. 3 position, notched up 29 off 18 balls with a couple of sixes.
Overall, it was Australia’s 14th win in 20 T20I matches against New Zealand while the Kiwis have only managed 5 wins so far.
