New Delhi: The Asia Cup 2025 has been revolving around controversies involving India and Pakistan. Tensions escalated after India declined to shake hands with the Pakistan players following their group-stage encounter. Following which the PCB demanded the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft from the tournament.
The ICC rejected their request, and Pakistan threatened to boycott their match against the UAE an action that could have ended their Asia Cup campaign. Ultimately, the game went ahead after a one-hour delay, with Pakistan securing a 41-run victory over the UAE.
Speaking about the situation, former India’s World cup winner Madan Lal criticized the PCB for their poor management and making unreasonable demands.
“Pakistan have surrendered because their demand was not genuine. First of all, why should we shake hands with them, it is not mentioned in any rulebook. Secondly, why should match referee Andy Pycroft be sacked. Pakistan have so many people interfering in one matter and if you see the condition of PCB, there’s no board. They take a decision just like that and that’s not right because at international level, you have to be extremely sure whenever you take any decision,” Madan Lal said on India Today.
While talking about Pakistan threatening to boycott the UAE clash, he said, “If you are not going to play, then who will suffer? You are going to suffer. If Pakistan would have boycotted the match against UAE, they would have caused an irreparable damage to their cricket.” added Madan Lal
Madan Lal further slammed the Pakistan team for their consecutive batting failures, labeling their performance as ‘classless’.
In the match against India, Pakistan could manage to score only 127/9 in 20 overs, while against UAE, they failed with the bat again and scored only 146/9.
