Indian skipper Virat Kohli is scaling new heights, not only with the bat but also with his fans. Kohli is immensely active and popular on social space. He has now become the first cricketer in the world ever to breach 100 mn followers on social media. Kohli has Facebook (37.1 million), Twitter (29.4 million) and Instagram (33.5 million). His three social accounts following adds up to 100 mn which is an astounding figure considering he is a cricketer. One also has to credit the boom of digital media which was not the case during times of Tendulkar and Dhoni. It is not that always Kohli gets praised as he also gets trolled often, but one thing for certain, it helps his popularity grow.

With under two weeks to go for the World Cup, Virat Kohli would be shouldering the dreams of a billion when Men in Blue start their World Cup campaign. He is the No 1 batsman in the world and hence expectations are bound to be high from him. Kohli has been in good form in international cricket and in IPL, his team may not have performed well but Kohli personally showed good form as he slammed a ton as well.

In a recent interview, Kohli explained why Karthik was preferred over Pant as this had created a controversy after the 15-member squad was announced.

“In pressure situations, he’s shown composure,” Kohli told the Times of India about Karthik. “It was something that everybody on board was convinced about.

“He has the experience. If, god forbid, something happens to MS (Dhoni), Karthik can be immensely valuable behind the wickets. As a finisher, he’s done well.

“So, it was the overall exposure to a tournament of this magnitude that was taken into primary consideration.”

India will start as one of the frontrunners in the World Cup that starts from May 30. India plays their tournament opener against South Africa on June 5.
