Top seed and world number one Novak Djokovic was knocked out of the Toronto Masters on Thursday, losing in straight sets to France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The 13th seed Tsonga won their third round clash 6-2, 6-2 and will face Great Britain’s Andy Murray for a place in the semi-finals. Murray enjoyed a walkover into the quarter-finals when France’s Richard Gasquet pulled out of their third round encounter with an abdominal injury.

It was not great going for the top seeds in the men’s Rogers Cup tennis tournament as Novak Djokovic struggled to keep himself abreast to high-flying Tsonga’s serve on the Toronto hard court. The Frenchman won the match against Djokovic, when the world number one Serbian played a wide return. Tsonga agreed of playing an aggressive game and that his serves clicked for him. The official Twitter page of Rogers Cup posted Tsonga’s comments post his match against Novak Djokovic.

Coming into the match, Novak Djokovic held a massive 13-5 head-to-head record against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and has registered 11 straight victory over the Frenchman but he just could not  survive against a dangerous looking yet simillar animated Tsonga in the match. Tsonga played a near perfect match to dispatch the reigning Wimbledon and three times Rogers Cup winner.

Novak Djokovic looked out of sorts in his earlier played second round match against another French Gael Monfils. He had to play for exactly two hours and 40 minutes to brush aside Gael Monfils after a hard fought battle 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2) on the Toronto hard court.
