New Zealand women cricket team will look to bounce back from their opening game loss to Australia as they go up against Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa team in match No. 7 of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Monday. It will be a landmark game for White Ferns veteran Suzie Bates, who is getting ready to play in her 350th international match – the first-ever women cricketer to achieve this feat.
South Africa were also hammered by England in their opening game of the World Cup but will be hoping for better batting show on a Indore track which has already shown to be full of runs in this tournament.
“Obviously, South Africa are going to be hurting after their first game. But I don’t think we can take too much from that game. Completely different conditions. They batted first, and obviously didn’t perform the way they wanted. We’ve just got to be making sure that we start really strongly with the ball and put them under pressure again. I know how South Africans are, and I’m sure they’re going to bounce back,” Bates said in the pre-match press conference.
New Zealand have lost the services of left-arm spinner Flora Devonshire with pacer Hannah Rowe has been named as her replacement. But the White Ferns are unlikely to make any changes to the side which lost to Australia in the opener.
The Proteas may consider bringing in Anneke Bosch to replace all-rounder Annerie Dercksen – one of only 4 SA batter to make an ODI century since 2024.
