New Delhi: Australia’s aggressive opener Mitchell Marsh is happy to go down and bat at No. 3 if left-handed batter Travis Head returns to the Australian side. However, Mitchell Marsh couldn’t confirm whether the left-handed batter would be back for the ODI World Cup 2023 match against the Netherlands on October 25 or not.
The 29-year-old Travis Head had been sidelined due to a left-hand injury he sustained during Australia’s tour of South Africa before the ODI World Cup, which caused him to make his debut in the World Cup. He also missed the first four matches of the mega event.
The five-time champions faced batting challenges in his absence, and they are eagerly waiting for his return. Ahead of the match against the Dutch side at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Travis Head showed full commitment in the training session while battling and was looking in fine condition.

The Australian opener, Mitchell Marsh, made 121 runs against Pakistan and scored 52 runs against Sri Lanka in his last two outings in the prestigious tournament. The right-handed batter also said that the Australian management would take a call on Head’s participation later on Tuesday.
“Yeah, I mentioned to David Warner, maybe he can bat three, but I got a firm no from him, so that’s being sarcastic there guys. But yeah, very happy to go back down to three. I’ve obviously batted there a lot over the last couple of years, so I feel really comfortable at three. And if and when Heady comes back in, I think that’s the best position for me to play for this team,” Mitchell Marsh said in the pre-match press conference.
The five-time champions have lost four matches till now, and the Pat Cummins-led side started their World Cup campaign on a horrible note as they lost two consecutive matches against India and South Africa. However, in the next two games, the Aussies bounced back and won the next two games against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Currently, the Australian side is placed in fourth place and will look to earn two more points against the spirited Scott Edwards-led Netherlands side.
