The Indian football team held Oman to a goalless draw on Thursday when the two sides took to the field in a final friendly encounter ahead of the upcoming Asian Cup tournament at the Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
In the initial stages of the game, Oman started on a positive note and pulled-off several attacking threats for the Indian side on a night when the goalkeepers put on a great show. After the first 15 minutes, India found their ground and displayed a gritty performance with several attacks on their opposition, but no avail.
While Arminder Singh made superb saves throughout the first half to thwart the Oman strikers efforts, it was Bengaluru FC’s Gurpreet Singh Sindhu in the second half with his heroics, keeping threating strikes at bay till the final minute of the game. Since the game was a friendly encounter, it gave head coach Stephen Constantine to experiment with different formations and tactics with several substitutions after the first half.
The Blue Tigers are ranked 97 of the FIFA Rankings, while their opponents are ranked at 84th but the match was an evenly contested one with several good opportunities for both the sides.
