Batting first, Kamil Mishara (76) and Kusal Mendis (40) played quick innings to help Sri Lanka post a strong total of 184 runs. In reply, Salman Ali Agha scored an unbeaten 63, but Pakistan could only manage 178 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, falling short against the dangerous bowling of Dushmantha Chameera.

While chasing the target, Dushmantha Chameera struck twice in the same over for Pakistan. First, he dismissed Sahibzada Farhan for 9, and in the same over, Babar Azam was out for 0. After that, wickets continued to fall. Chameera finished with 4 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs.

Babar Azam has now become the Pakistani player with the joint-most ducks in T20Is, equalling Sam Ayub and Umar Gul. This was his 10th duck in T20Is. Sam Ayub and Umar Akmal also have 10 ducks each. Surprisingly, in his last 9 T20I innings, Babar has been out for a duck 4 times.
