Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Asia Cup 2018 Super Four: Bangladeshi captain rose to the occasion against Pakistan not with the ball but on the field. He took a blinder to get rid of in-form Shoaib Malik and reduce Pakistan to 85/4. Bangladesh eventually beat Pakistan by 37 runs to set up a finals date with India. Going into the match, Pakistan was favourites, but it was the grit and courage that got Bangladesh through. But the catch by Mortaza will be remembered for ages in Bangladeshi cricketing history. Arguably the catch of the tournament because of many reasons like the stage (a virtual semi), the batsman (Shoaib Malik) and of course he is a fast bowler and hence they are not expected to take blinders inside the 30 yards circle. The bowler was Rubel Hossain, who slightly overpitched the ball on the legs of Malik, it was not the best of balls, but Malik found Mashrafe on its way.

Here is the video of the catch.

Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman starred with the ball scalping four wickets after Mushfiqur Rahim bailed Bangladesh out of trouble from 12/3 to 239, thanks to his marvelous 99.

Apart from Imam’s laborious 82 off 105 balls, there was nothing much to write about the Pakistan batting. The application seemed to be the problem.

“The bowlers did a good job, especially when we didn’t get the runs,” said Mashrafe. “But Mushi and Mithun batted really well and got us to a fighting total. We are proud of our fielding today. For a long time we haven’t seen this quality of fielding in our team, so hopefully, the boys can understand the value of good fielding.”

Sarfraz was upset with team’s showing in the six-team tournament.

“It’s not a good feeling,” said Sarfraz. “As a captain, I didn’t do well. We didn’t field well, our batting collapsed and as a team we didn’t do well in any department.

“It seems the team which won the Champions Trophy last year didn’t come here at all.”
