(Catch the Live Updates of the 1st Test Match of New Zealand tour of United Arab Emirates between between Pakistan and New Zealand from Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi)

New Zealand – 231 in 70.3 overs

And it’s all over at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Luck could only pull New Zealand this far on the final day. Sodhi is caught leg before wicket (lbw) by Imran Khan’s delivery and the umpire felt it was making contact with the stumps and raised his finger. The batsman called for the decision to be reviewed and it according to the suggestions, the ball’s predicted projectile does make contact with the leg stump and the decision stands. Ish Sodhi lbw Imran Khan – 63 runs (102 balls)

New Zealand – 229/9 in 68 overs

The matters have slowed down considerably in the last four overs. Pakistan could have had two chances to end the match. One in the 66th over as Zulfiqar Babar’s delivery came off Sodhi’s gloves and went high up in the air. Sarfraz was moving towards the ball but decided to pause for some strange reason. Then in the 35-year-old’s next over (68th), Sodhi edges a shot which flies to safety over the slips. Just nine runs amassed in the last four overs which also saw the introduction of Imran Khan in place of Yasir Shah.

New Zealand – 220/9 in 64 overs

The Kiwis have no intention of giving it up without a fight and have crossed 200 runs. The last four overs have seen three fours; two from Boult and one from Sodhi). The latter also completes 50 runs in style with a six.

New Zealand – 196/9 in 60 overs

Boult is lucky to have remained on the crease as his attempted placement takes a slight edge but doesn’t fly towards the first slip. Sodhi is just 10 runs short of a half-century; his second in Test matches while his partner is on eight runs. Yasir Shah bowls the 60th over and the pair manage six runs from it that includes a four by Boult.

New Zealand – 176 /9 in 56 overs

We have our first breakthrough in less than two overs into the day’s play. Mark Craig walks after he is bowled off the inside edge from Yasir Shah’s delivery. Pakistan need one wicket more! Trent Boult is the last batsman remaining to bat and he is off the mark making two runs from four balls. Sodhi is on 29 for now. Mark Craig – b Yasir Shah – 28 runs (70 balls)

There is no doubt that Pakistan are clearly in pole position to register a convincing victory over New Zealand in the first Test at the command of the second Test match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. We don’t expect the Kiwis to last for two hours, let alone till lunch as they have just two wickets in hand and must chase down a target of 306 runs to take the lead in the three-match series.

The visitors currently have 176 runs on the board with Mark Craig and Ish Sodhi on the pitch with 27 runs each to their tally. Brendon McCullum’s knock of 39 is the highest score in the innings for New Zealand. The 33-year-old will be hoping against hope that the two spinners will somehow pull off an impossible task with Trent Boult the only other player remaining to bat.
