Not only did Fakhar Zaman become the fastest to 1000 ODI runs in 18 innings, but he also became the only player to score 500+ runs in a five-match ODI series. Becoming the fastest to 1000 ODI runs, he went past Sir Vivian Richards and Kevin Pietersen, who got to the feat in their 21st innings. Zaman scored 85 of 83 balls and stitched a partnership of 168 with Imam ul Haq. He was eyeing another 100 but fell against the run of play to Roche. Zaman averages 267.5 in the series, which is surreal.

Earlier, Zaman and Haq (113) shared 304 runs for the opening wicket and broke the previous record of 286 runs made by Sri Lanka’s Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya at Leeds in July 2006. Zaman has been in a purple patch even in T20Is, where he also bagged the Man of the Series in the recently concluded Twenty20 tri-series involving Australia.

Once Fakhar got the milestone, Twitter went berserk. Here are the pick of the tweets.

Here Pakistan fans have found a new name for the batsman which means ‘pride of Pakistan’. Earlier, Virat Kohli held the record for the highest runs in a series. Virat had scored 558 runs against South Africa in 6 matches at an average of 186. But that was a six-match series, hence that does not count.
