International cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir Parvez Rasool inaugurated a cricket academy in Banihal district. The academy is sponsored by Indian Army and is located in Lower Gund area of the Banihal. The purpose of the academy is to nurture and promote the local talent. The cricket academy is said to have a full-fledged international standard imported turf pitch along other required facilities. Apart from inaugurating the academy, Parvez also launched the Banihal Premier League, local cricket tournament. Parvez inaugurated the fifth edition of the tournament in which 32 teams are participating, report Greater Kashmir.
During the interaction with the press, the cricketer said that a lot needs to be done to develop the the game in the state. Upon being asked about his India chances, the former Jammu and Kashmir captain said that his working hard to make a comeback. “I will be performing well and giving opportunity in the team is in the hands of the selectors,” Parvez was quoted as saying by Greater Kashmir.
Parvez, who is the first cricketer from J&K to represent India, has played one One-Day International (ODI) and one T20I. The star J&K cricketer has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well.
