New Delhi: In the final Super four match between India and Sri Lanka a strange incident unfolded when a batter smashed a six, yet no runs were added despite a dropped catch. The incident occurred in the 10th over of Sri Lanka’s innings as Varun Chakravarthy ran in to bowl the third ball. Once he passed the umpire, the delivery was called a dead ball.

Umpires called the ball a ‘Dead ball’

Varun appeared unaware while delivering the ball, and Pathum Nissanka sent it for a six. Axar Patel, who was standing near the boundary, dropped the catch, allowing the ball to go for a six. However, since the umpire had already called it a dead ball, no runs were added, and Varun has to bowl the delivery again.

However, Nissanka smashed a six on the fifth ball of the over to make up for the dead ball that had previously prevented him from doing so.

Nissanka scored his maiden T20I century

Nissanka scored his maiden T20I century off 52 deliveries, reaching the milestone with a towering six. The opener displayed his brilliance on the big stage but wasn’t able to guide his team to victory, as he got dismissed off Harshit Rana’s ball in the last over. He finished with 107 runs off 58 balls, which included 7 fours and 6 sixes.

Sri Lanka succeeded in pushing the match to the Super over

Rana bowled a disciplined final over, but but Sri Lanka succeeded in pushing the match to the Super over as they equalled the score of 202/5 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka managed to score only 2 runs in the Super over as Arshdeep Singh dismissed Kusal Perera for a duck on the first delivery, and Dasun Shanaka was caught out on the fifth ball.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav scored three runs off the very first ball to seal the victory, keeping India’s unbeaten run in the tournament intact.

Abhishek Sharma continued his impressive form and scored 61 off 31 deliveries, which included eight fours and two sixes, while Tilak Varma also played a brilliant 49 runs innings off 34 deliveries, which included four boundaries and a six. Sanju Samson scored a quick 39 off 23 and Axar Patel scored 21 not out off 15, helping India post a total of 202/5 in their 20 overs.
