New Delhi: Defending champions Patna Pirates defeated debutant Gujarat Fortunegiants 55-38 to win the Pro Kabaddi League 2017. This was also the third successive PKL title for Patna and they were the deserving champions.

It was the outstanding performance by skipper Pardeep Narwal, who lead Patna Pirates to victory by grabbing 19 raid points from his 24 raids, with a raid strike of 79%. He also grabbed the Man of the match and Do-or-die player of the match award for his tremendous performance.

Patna Pirates started on a positive note by clinching the first point of the match. However, just a moments later Rakesh Narwal inflicted a super-raid to put Gujarat in front.

Fortunegiants then enjoyed the lead for most of the time in first half, but Pardeep Narwal once again showed that he is best in business, especially when it comes to raid as he helped Patna to bounce back in the game and took three points lead at the end of the first half.

The second half was not much different than the first one and Patna once again proved out to be a dominant side as they never let Gujarat take upper-hand in the match. However, Gujarat did come close to Patna and at one point they were just trailing by four points, but Patna made sure that they maintain their lead by picking up points at the regular intervals.

The match was always going to be attack vs defence as Patna were best known for their offensive skills, while Gujarat had the most formidable defence in the league. However, the debutants failed to rise to the occasion and they gave away too many raid points.

The Gujarat Fortunegiants had their chances but they were unable to convert, thanks to their own errors and the brilliance of Pardeep. Patna Pirates have now won Season 3, Season 4 and Season 5 of the PKL and they will aim to defend their title in next season as well.
