It was a smooth entry into the semis for defending champions, Patna Pirates as they topped the league stage with 52 points and 10 wins. On the other hand, their opponents Puneri Paltan had to win their last league match in order to qualify.

Pune eventually qualified by winning their last three matches consecutively. They were tied on the points with U Mumba, however a better score difference saw them take the last spot left for semis.
