Rafael Nadal locked horns with Dominic Thiem for the French Open 2018 Finals at the Philipe Chatrier Court. With a huge crowd rooting for Nadal who was chasing his 12th French Open crown, it seemed that the lesser-experienced Thiem would get overawed and lose quickly.

But that was not to be as Thiem matched Nadal shot-for-shot in the first set that lasted touch more than an hour was won by Nadal 6-4.

What we saw in the first set was Nadal played the big points better. In the second set, Nadal got off to a great start with a break. But after that, there was some fight shown from Thiem who did not allow Nadal to break again. But that meant Rafael Nadal won the second set 6-3. It was Thiem two sets down. It seemed Rafael Nadal was not going to give an inch to his younger opponent.

Nadal was in top form and he easily took an important early break in the third set and it looked all over for the seventh seed.


Finally, Nadal won the third set and the match also the championship 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. This is also Nadal’s record 12th French Open title.
