Walking on the footsteps of his legendary father – Rahul Dravid, young Samit dished out an impressive all-round performance to guide his team to victory in an Under-14 encounter of the Cottonian Shield in Bangalore on Thursday.

The 12-year old cricketer struck a brilliant unbeaten half-century and scalped three wickets for just nine runs to help Aditi International School to register a nine-wicket win against the Cambridge Public School.

Samit is the elder son of former Indian cricket and current India A and under-19 coach, Rahul Dravid. However, this is not the first time when a bespectacled youngster has made headlines for his crucial performances on the cricket field.

In January, he slammed a match-winning century in BTW Cup Under-14 tournament to show that he is also ready to cover the distance like his father. With consistent performances, Samit has also managed to remain among the top run-getters in school cricket in the last couple of years.

In 2015, he also bagged the coveted honour of the “Best Batsman” during a competition known as the Under-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge (GCC).

This is the second instance in the recent times when a son of former international cricketer has made a mark for himself with strong performances. Arjun Tendulkar, son of ‘God of Cricket’ – Sachin Tendulkar also came in the limelight when he represented the India under-19 team on the Sri Lankan tour. He is already under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India U-19 and India A teams.

It will be interesting how these youngsters will fare in the future and will they be able to emulate the feats of their fathers who dominated the world cricket for a long time.
