New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja scored his sixth Test century of his career on Friday (October 3) in the ongoing Test match between India and the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He completed his century with a single off the third ball of Jomel Warrican’s over. This innings not only strengthened India’s lead but also placed Jadeja among the select group of Indian all-rounders who have excelled with both bat and ball.
Jadeja has become the third Indian player to score at least six centuries and take six five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin previously achieved this feat. Kapil Dev had eight centuries and 23 five-wicket hauls in 131 Tests, while Ashwin had six centuries and 37 five-wicket hauls in 106 Tests. Jadeja has now secured his place on this prestigious list with six centuries and 15 five-wicket hauls in 86 Tests.
Jadeja scored a brilliant 104 off 176 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. His innings was made even more special by a 206-run partnership with Dhruv Jurel. Jurel scored his first Test century, making 125 off 210 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes. Together, the two players completely dominated the West Indies bowling attack.
Jadeja achieved another major milestone by hitting five sixes in his innings. He surpassed MS Dhoni to reach 80 sixes in Test cricket for India. He has now moved up to fourth place, behind Virender Sehwag (90), Rishabh Pant (90), and Rohit Sharma (88). Dhoni has 78 sixes in 90 Tests.
By the end of the day, India posted a massive 448/5, taking a commanding lead of 286 runs. Jadeja (104*) and Washington Sundar (9*) held firm at the crease, while KL Rahul also gave the team a strong start with a brilliant 100.
