Rishabh Pant zooms to THIS spot in ICC Test ranking, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slip but Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin remain No 1 and 2

Rishabh Pant's knock of 99 in the 1st Test vs New Zealand in Bengaluru has helped him rise three positions in the latest ICC Test batting rankings.

Team India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is only 3 Tests into his comeback in the format, having been out of international cricket for a year after a horrific car crash in December 2022 but he is already moving towards the top of the ICC Test batting ranking. Pant added a brilliant 99 in the 1st Test vs New Zealand in Bengaluru last week after scoring his 6th Test ton against Bangladesh last month.

Pant’s scores of 20 and 99 helped him zoom up three places to 6th position in the latest ICC Test batting ranking with 745 points. Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is still the highest-ranked Indian batter in fourth position with 780 points, although he failed to score a fifty in the 1st Test vs New Zealand.

However, it is the Indian bowlers who are continuing to dominate the ICC Test bowlers rankings. Although India lost the 1st Test by eight wickets, bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin are still in No. 1 and 2 position in the bowlers rankings with 871 and 849 points currently. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also in the top 10 – in the joint 6th position with 801 points.

But Indian captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli slipped in the batting rankings, in spite of scoring fifties in the second innings of the 1st Test vs New Zealand. Rohit scored 52 in Bengaluru after his first innings failure and Kohli notched up 70 after scoring a duck in the first innings. Kohli has slipped down one position to 8th spot with 720 points while Rohit slipped 2 places and is now in 15th spot with 683 points.

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s slide also continue. The former No. 1 batter is now in 19th place with India’s Shubman Gill with 677 points each. England batter Joe Root continues to lead the Test batting ranking with 917 points while New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, who will miss the second Test in Pune as well, remains in 2nd place with 821 points. Harry Brook of England is in 3rd position with 803 points.
