Rising Pune Supergiants beat Kings XI Punjab by 4 wickets to finish the IPL at number seven in the points table. MS Dhoni was the man of the moment, who got 23 runs off the last over (with one wide counted as well). In the end, Pune would thank their captain no end in winning a match as close as this. Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. They got 172 for 7 in 20 overs.
Murali Vijay was the top scorer, he made 59. Gurkeerat Singh made 51 and Ravi Ashwin bagged 4 wickets. Dhoni finished with 64 not out off 32 balls in the chase. That makes it a strike rate of precisely 200. It in the end, it looked like the Dhoni show all the way.
Conditions were good for batting and Punjab did well to exploit the conditions first up. But it did not help that they could not finish as well as they would have liked. They were ahead for 39 overs it seemed and the last over took it away from them. How Dhoni did it is the big question. He was obviously calm under pressure. Axar Patel bowled the last over and the choice of having a slow bowler bowl in the end was interesting to say the least.
Both teams meanwhile finish the IPL with disappointment. They both would have wanted better. That was not to be. But we did see a cracking game in the end, making it worth the wait.
