New Delhi: On Tuesday, November 25, the ICC unveiled the schedule for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The tournament will begin on February 7, with the final set for March 8. Rohit Sharma attended the announcement alongside Suryakumar Yadav and Harmanpreet Kaur. During the event, the ICC confirmed Rohit’s involvement in the tournament, naming him the brand ambassador for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“I’m pleased to announce 2024 T20 World Cup winner and 2025 Champions Trophy winning captain, Rohit Sharma, as the brand ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup,” said Shah.
Rohit Sharma-led team India scripted history by lifting the T20 World Cup in 2024, ending India’s 11-year wait for an ICC trophy since 2013. Showcasing determination, focus, and fearless play, they powered through the tournament with exceptional consistency.
Sharing his feelings about being named ambassador, Rohit said, “It is a great privilege for me, and a great honour as well. Hopefully, we can recreate the magic that we created last year with a different bunch of boys this time around. But yes, it is a huge task to win an ICC trophy. I have seen that personally as well in all these years,” Rohit said.
“I have completed 18 years playing international cricket and been fortunate enough to have won 2 recently, and then at the very beginning of my career and then in the middle, it was a huge drought where we could not win an ICC trophy. And I know how desperate we were as players, as a team, as management to go and win that trophy.”
“But to finally come out and win those trophies feels good. You can see around the country, the amount of happiness that is spread with, with the with the sport that we play. So yes, that’s one thing. But now to sit on the other side and watch the T20 World Cup, having played all the World Cups and not being there now we will feel a little different,” he added.
Rohit’s exceptional leadership, supported by Virat Kohli’s experience and a fierce bowling lineup spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, played a crucial role. The dramatic final, in which India stayed composed under pressure, triggered nationwide celebrations and brought fans around the world together.
The victory showcased redemption, resilience, and a new era in Indian cricket, anchored in confidence and team spirit.
