Rohit Sharma may have been away from competitive cricket from June to mid-October, but his recent performances in the ODI series in Australia showed he stayed in top form. A determined 73 in Adelaide and an unbeaten 121 in Sydney highlighted the effort he put in behind the scenes, including a big focus on fitness. Former India batting coach and Rohit’s close friend, Abhishek Nayar, revealed that the 38-year-old may continue his weight-loss journey before India’s next home ODI series.

When did Rohit Sharma lose 11 kilograms?

At the beginning of September, when Rohit was seen in public for the first time since the IPL 2025 in May, he looked almost completely changed. He appeared much leaner and fitter as he stepped out of his car at Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), where some Indian players had gathered for the required pre-season fitness test. Later, during the Australia series, Nayar, who was working as a commentator, shared that Rohit had lost 11 kilograms over the past three months.

After spending extra time at the CoE to prepare for the Australia tour, Rohit went back to Mumbai and trained under Nayar’s guidance at Shivaji Park before heading to Perth.

His hard work was visible in Australia. Although he looked a bit rusty in the first match, he recovered in Adelaide with an important half-century and finished the series with an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls in Sydney, including 13 fours and three sixes.

What did Abhishek Nayar say on Rohit Sharma?

Talking to JioStar after the match, Nayar said Rohit would be happy with his performance but will probably continue his fitness journey. He predicted that the 38-year-old could lose a few more kilograms before India’s home ODI series against South Africa, starting on November 14.

“Rohit Sharma will be a relieved man on his flight back to India. He gave up his favourite meal and the results are visible. The next series is in a month’s time and don’t be surprised if he loses a few more kilos by then,” he said.
