Ross Taylor set to rejoin English county Sussex for NatWest T20 Blast

In the last season, the 32-year-old middle order batsman scored 349 runs in 10 matches for Sussex at an average of 56.28. During his short stint with Sussex, he blasted 93 off 48 balls in an innings which was comprised of eight sixes.

Veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is all set to rejoin Sussex as an overseas player for this year’s NatWest Twenty 20 Blast campaign, the English county team said on Tuesday.

In the last season, the 32-year-old middle order batsman scored 349 runs in 10 matches for Sussex at an average of 56.28. During his short stint with Sussex, he blasted 93 off 48 balls in an innings which included eight sixes.

However, despite Taylor’s superb performance with the willow – Sussex failed to surpass the group stage. He will be hoping that in the upcoming season he can prove himself once again under the captaincy of Luke Wright and Coach Mark Davis. While talking to the club website, Taylor said, “I am delighted to be returning to Sussex for the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast.”

Taylor also believed that this season they have a strong squad which is comprised of quality young talent and experienced players. However, with international duty is on the flank, Taylor couldn’t wait to meet other members of the team.

Sussex coach Davis is also happy with the inclusion of Ross Taylor in his squad. “We are thrilled to have Ross joining us for the T20 competition. He was outstanding in the competition last season and to have him back is brilliant for the club,” Davis said.

The coach also said that the veteran right-handed batsman’s presence in the squad will also help young players. “Not only is Ross a world-class player, but a fantastic role model to our younger players,” Davis signed off.

Before the NatWest T20 Blast 2017 start on July 7, Taylor will play two bilateral series against Australia and South Africa at home and then fly to Ireland for a tri-nation series which will feature Ireland, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Following this series, New Zealand will fly to England for the Champions Trophy which will start in June.
