Billed as the ‘Boss of the segment’, BMW India launched the all-new BMW X5 which offers supreme sporting prowess, fresh modern design, refined interiors, driving comfort and authoritative driving attributes, on Thursday. Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar did the honours for the new Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the presence of BMW Group India President Hans-Christian Baertels. Prices of the all-new BMW X5 start from Rs. 72.9 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, for the base diesel model, going up to Rs. 82.4 lakhs for the higher petrol and diesel variants.
The luxury SUV is assembled in India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route. It will rival the Volvo XC90, Mercedes Benz GLE, and the Audi Q7 SUVs. Unlike the Q7 though, which happens to be the largest SUV in the segment that also offers 7 seats, the X5 will be a five-seater. The new BMW X5 is much larger than the 3rd generation model but is slightly shorter. The increase in width gives the new X5 a more planted, squat stance.
“It is bigger and better, grown in all dimensions and makes a powerful statement. It’s the ‘Boss of the segment’,” remarked Baertels. “You feel like a boss…It’s a bit of a boss even on the road, and you can take this car wherever you want,” concurred Tendulkar, when asked about his driving experience with the BMW X5.
Baertels added that BMW’s SAV’s were established in 1999 with the BMW X5, which went onto become the best selling and most successful car in the segment.
“It has become one of the most successful models. The fourth-gen, all-new BMW X5 is bound to add another chapter in the success story. It has a greater blend of premium luxury performance, technology and comfort,” he said.
To be manufactured locally, the BMW X5 is available in three design schemes – Sport, xLine and M Sport – in metallic Mineral While, Phytonic Blue and Black Sapphire colours.
A key feature is the enlarged one-piece hexagonal grille paired with a sculptured bonnet and short overhands, giving its iconic front an imposing appearance.
