Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounder of all times, Jacques Kallis was a force to reckon with on the cricket field during his heydays. With 45 Test hundreds under his belt, Kallis was not only a champion with the bat but also an equally destructible asset with the ball as well. His availability in the playing XI for South Africa made the team a champion side in all formats of the game.
On his 43rd birthday, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and one of Kallis’ biggest contemporaries during his playing days wished the Proteas legend with a heartwarming message.
Sachin took to his official Twitter account to wish the Cape Town-born cricketer, he wrote: “An amazing all-rounder but more importantly a simple and humble human being. It was a pleasure playing against you, @jacqueskallis75. Wishing you a very happy birthday”.
Kallis finished his Test career with an impressive average of 55.37 combining both the 1st & 2nd innings, but he has a bit better average in the 2nd innings compared to his career average & 1st innings average. He average 56.26 in the 2nd innings of Test matches (among those with more than 2000 runs). It is the second highest in Test cricket history only behind Sir Donald Bradman.
The South African all-rounder was a mix of sharp batting skills, to-the-point bowling and was one of the safest hands on the field. He piled up 13,289 runs in 166 Tests while his ODI record was also fascinating, where he amassed 11,579 runs in 328 outings.
