Tanmay Bhat’s video on Snapchat, where he had spoofed two of India’s icons, Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar kicked up a furore on social media. After the All India Backc**d (AIB) roast, it looks like the young comedian is courting yet another controversy. Both Lata and Sachin enjoy a huge following across the country and their fans were quick to react, slamming Bhat for taking it a step too far with obscene content. Bhatt had morphed his image with Lata and Sachin’s and posted and imaginary rendezvous between the two Indian icons.
Sachin’s wife, Anjali, who is active on Twitter came out and expressed her discontent at the content that was on display in Bhat’s video and called for comedians to distinguish between comedy and insult. She wrote, “Disrespect is not cool neither it’s funny. Comedians should understand the difference between comedy and insult.” Anjali was not done and went on a retweeting spree from her followers, who were by her side in the debate.

Elsewhere, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackerey and his supporters have also threatened to file an FIR against Bhat. There were quite a few celebrity supporters who were hurt by the act too in the form of Celina Jaitley and Anupam Kher. Bhatt landed in further soup when a bunch of insensitive Tweets of his from the past also started to surface on social media. Tendulkar and Lata have not spoken out regarding the issue it is highly unlikely that the Master Blaster would do so.
