New Delhi, May 13: Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik (60kg) and Vinesh Phogat (55kg) settled for silver after losing their respective final bouts at the Asian Wrestling Championships on Friday.

In the 60kg category, Sakshi lost her final bout to Risako Kawai of Japan, while new girl on the block Divya Kakran impressed by finishing with a silver after going down to Japan’s Sara Dosho 0-8.

High hopes were pinned on Sakshi but Rio Olympics gold medallist Kawai outplayed the Indian wrestler 10-0. For the first time Sakshi was competing above 58kg weight category and was never in contention against an opponent like Kawai.

“It was a bad day, but I hope I will do better in future tournaments,” Sakshi said after the match.

On the other hand, Vinesh, also struggled on the mat and lost her gold medal match to Japan’s Nanjo Sae 4-8.

In women’s 48kg category, Ritu Phogat settled for the bronze medal. She got a walkover from China’s Yanan Sun, who pulled out of the match due to an injury.
