With the two-year suspension to get over in 2018, Rajasthan Royals are toying with the idea of return to Indian Premier League in 2018. In 2015, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were suspended for two years due to spot fixing scandal and conflict of interest controversy.
Now, it was learnt that former Royals skipper Shane Warne will join the team as a mentor cum coach. When Royals were suspended former India skipper Rahul Dravid was their mentor who later joined Delhi Daredevils and recently BCCI extended his tenure with India A and India U-19 team. To avoid conflict of interest issue Dravid gave up his IPL job with Daredevils.
“Over the last two years, Rahul Dravid has been instrumental in getting young talent into the mix who have proved their worth on the big stage,” the BCCI Acting President, CK Khanna said.
“We are glad to continue his services for the next two years and are sure that this is a bright sign for Indian cricket which will see many more young talents coming up in the future,” he added.
Now, Royals management is planning to return to the glitzy Twenty 20 cricket with a bang.
According to a report carried out by The Indian Express, the Royals franchise is in talks with Shane Warne-the legendary Australian leg spinner who guided Royals to their maiden IPL title in 2008.
After Warne terminated his association with Royals, Rahul Dravid joined them as a skipper along with Paddy Upton and the duo played a crucial role in unearthing talented youngsters, eventually he made them a force to reckon with in Indian cricket.
Following CSK and RR’s suspension BCCI had introduced Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions. Now, as CSK and RR’s suspension was got over RPS and GL’s future are uncertain. As per reports, RPS and GL will not get extension.
