The entire sports fraternity came together to welcome wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who is set to be released by Pakistan today. From Heena Sidhu to Harbhajan Singh lauded the move by the Pakistan Prime Minister. “I tried to call (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi to say that we don’t want escalation. But our desire for de-escalation should not be taken as our weakness,” Imran Khan said before adding: “We have an Indian pilot. As a peace gesture, we will release him.”

Ace shooter Heena Sidhu took to Twitter and her post read, ” Sending a POW back is not an act of descalation or a step towards peace as some stupid media people are saying. If our “loving” neighbours had sent JeM chief, Masood Azhar, that would have been it. Let’s welcome our hero #Abhinandan but dont see it getting over yet.”

“Good to see a gesture like this being made by the PM of Pakistan and my old time counterpart @imrankhanpti to return Wing Commander #AbhinandanVarthaman back to India. Hope this goes a long way in bringing peace between the two nations. #WelcomeBackAbhinandan #SayNo2War,” Kambli had tweeted.

According to Zee News reports, wing commander AbhinandanVarthaman is set to be back in India by 4:00 PM on Friday.
