New Delhi: Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill has performed brilliantly and has set a number of records on the England tour. He became the second Indian to score more than 700 runs on a foreign tour. Gill seems to be in good form and is putting pressure on the hosts.
Shubman Gill achieved a big feat on the fifth day of the Manchester Test. He became the second Indian to score 700+ runs on a foreign tour. In this case, he equaled Sunil Gavaskar. The legendary batsman scored 774 runs on the tour of West Indies in 1971. He did a similar feat on the tour of England in 1979. He scored 732 runs in this series. Now Gill has made a big record by scoring 700* runs in the current series. Talking about the overall record, Gill is the third Indian to score 700 runs in a Test series. Apart from Gavaskar and him, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 712 runs in 2024 on the India tour of England.

After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, Gill was made the captain of the Test team. He took full advantage of this opportunity and proved the selectors right. Gill is making a splash with the bat. He became the first Asian player to score more than 700 runs in a Test series in England. Earlier this record was in the name of Pakistan’s ‘run machine’ Mohammad Yousuf. In 2006, Yousuf scored 631 runs in seven innings of four matches at an average of 90.14. Gill broke this 19-year-old record.
The Indian team was the first Asian team to tour England. India did so in 1932. After this, in the last 93 years, Gill was the only Asian batsman to cross the 700-run mark in a Test series in England. Not only this, Shubman Gill became the second Indian captain to score more than 700 runs in a Test series. Gill achieved another feat. He is the third guest captain to score more than 700 runs in a Test series in England.
In the second innings, India started with setbacks. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan were dismissed by Chris Woakes. After this, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill took over the front. There was a partnership of 188 runs in 421 balls for the third wicket between the two. On the fifth day, Ben Stokes broke this partnership and got KL out LBW. He was out after scoring 90 runs with the help of eight fours in 230 balls. In this way, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill made the record of playing the most balls in a Test by any Indian pair in England. The previous record was in the name of Sanjay Bangar and Rahul Dravid (405), which they made in Leeds in 2002.
