Star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal crashed out of the Denmark Open as she was defeated by World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying in the quarter-final match in Odense on Friday.
The 28-year-old from Hyderabad lost to Tzu Ying after a dominant display, losing in straight games 20-22, 11-21 within just 36 minutes.
Saina’s poor run against Ying continued as she never looked in the contention right from the start but towards the end of the first game Saina bounced back but could not finish the things.
The second game saw Ying overpowering Saina. It was a cakewalk for the World No. 1 as she outmuscled Saina with ease to enter the semi-final.
In another category, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the semifinals, defeating their compatriot Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy 21-17, 21-11.
Earlier last week, after Saina Nehwal had reached the finals of Denmark Open, she was rewarded for her stupendous show as she too climbed one rung to reach the number nine 9 slot. In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth remained static at world no 6, while Sameer Verma jumped five spots to be in 18th position. H S Prannoy, who skipped the events in Denmark and France, slipped two places to be 17th.
