Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs said that the South African needs to look towards an Australian to fill the role of the new coach. Current coach Rusell Domingo’s contract will get over in August afterward Cricket South Africa will look a new coach. Gibbs believes that South Africa needs an Australia coach –who won’t tolerate this ‘buddy-buddy’ attitude’ – could work for the Proteas side.

Gibbs said he likes Australia’s mindset towards the game. Their approach is something fresh and that would help South African to build them as a strong team.

Speaking to Netwerk24, Gibbs said, “I think that can only be achieved through outside input.” According to Gibbs current, South Africa players share a ‘buddy-buddy’ atmosphere in the dressing room which he believes is nonsense. “The coach needs to be in control and for that reason, I believe an Australia coach – who won’t tolerate this ‘buddy-buddy’ attitude’ – could work,” Gibbs added.

Gibbs a prolific South African batsman and he could be recalled as one of the destructive batsmen of of his time. It could be recalled that he partnering with then skipper Graeme Smith formed a formidable opening partnership in the world. One of the examples is 2006 Johannesburg ODI where he chased down Australia’s 434 for South Africa.

Gibbs hits out at party culture among the cricketers who overlook their game. Gibbs said parties are important for cricketers but at the same time they have to work hard on their game to keep them fit for the match.
