South Africa recall Morne Morkel for Champions Trophy

South Africa have recalled Morne Morkel and also included Keshav Maharaj in their squad for the Champions Trophy in June.

South Africa have recalled Morne Morkel and also included Keshav Maharaj in their squad for the Champions Trophy in June.  However, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander recovering from injuries have been left out.

Despite being down with injury during the ongoing Indian Premier League, AB de Villiers have been given the responsibility to lead the side. South Africa have also included four bowling allrounders in Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius.

Morkel is returning to the ODI set up after playing his last match in June 2016. In the three Tests against New Zealand, the lanky seamer returning from an injury lay-off claimed 11 wickets at 26.72. But in the Champions Trophy, it will be Kagiso Rabada who will spearhead the attack for South Africa.

Maharaj gets his maiden ODI call up after impressing in the Test series against New Zealand by being highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets. Maharaj has pushed out left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi out of the squad.

The Proteas will head into the Champions Trophy after playing three one-dayers against England in May. South Africa after winning the series in New Zealand are currently ranked No. 1 in ODIs.
