South Africa vs Pakistan 1st Test: Speedster Dale Steyn surpassed Shaun Pollock to become the most successful bowler ever for South Africa. Steyn dismissed Fakhar Zaman for 12 to pip Pollock. Steyn now has 422 Test wickets. He has got there in his 89th Test, whereas Pollock took 108 Tests to get there.
On the overall list of Test cricket’s most successful bowlers, Steyn is at 11th place. Among active cricketers, only Jame Anderson (565) and Stuart Broad (433) are ahead. Pollock claimed 421 wickets in 108 Test matches at an average of 23.11 while striking every 57.8 deliveries.
Hailed for the competitiveness in all forms of the game, South Africa were whitewashed 0-2 by an average Sri Lankan side in spin-friendly climes. Captain Faf du Plessis and Theunis de Bruyn are the only ones to crack a fine hundred in the second Test. The Proteas duo were the only two batsmen to accrue more than 100 runs for South Africa in the series against Islanders. However, Ottis Gibson, South Africa head coach is confident that his batsmen will put up a much-improved show at home.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s recent record in red-ball cricket is also well below par. The visitors suffered their second home series loss in the UAE in approximately a year.
