Ronaldo-Bale-vs-Granada

Matchweek 29 of La Liga 2014-15 witnessed just one change in the top four as Barcelona maintain their four-point lead at the top of the table. But it’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid who gobbled all the headlines following their 9-1 win against relegation threatened Granada. Carlo Ancelotti’s side had won just one league game out of their last four matches to slip away from the title race.

But the Spanish capital outfit suddenly sparked to life with Ronaldo leading the charge by netting five goals. Gareth Bale opened the scoring and the Portuguese international netted an eight-minute hat-trick to put Los Blancos in a comfortable position before half-time. Karim Benzema netted his first of the evening and added his second after Ronaldo hit his fourth. Diego Mainz then unfortunately netted an own goal before the former Manchester United forward capped a five-star display to make it five.

Reigning champions Atletico Madrid were in action against Cordoba and Diego Simeone’s side edged the bottom club 2-0; courtesy of goals from Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez. The result ensured Los Rojiblancos retain third place after Villarreal and Valencia played out a goalless draw. Despite the pressure from Real Madrid, Barcelona maintained their four-point gap on top of the table by defeating Celta Vigo. Jeremy Mathieu netted his second goal in as many matches to help the Blaugrana register a 1-0 win.
